Today is Thanksgiving. Only three short years ago, Dave and I were celebrating Thanksgiving, just the two of us. We didn't take the trip to Ohio for fear I would go into labor on the PA turnpike. Dave "prepared" our Thanksgiving dinner - it consisted of a Hormel Turkey breast and Bob Evans mashed potatoes. While only three years ago, it seems like a lifetime ago. So much has changed since then. About a week after that meal, we welcomed Ben into our lives. I thought I had a lot to be thankful for before that, but now I can't even express how thankful I am that he is in our lives.
Ben woke up this morning with a combo "gobble, gobble, cock-a-doodle-do" he believes that is what a turkey says. I asked him if he was going to eat turkey today and he informed me he was willing to eat a turkey cookie with candy corn on it. Hmmmm. He definitely inherited my sweet tooth. As I was making bread today, he asked if the flour I was using was for his birthday cake. He also told me I needed to put sugar in his birthday cake. I can barely follow a recipe and he's rattling the ingredients needed to bake a cake off the top of his head!
In addition to being a gourmet chef, he is also becoming fluent in Spanish. There are several words he knows. If I say the English word, he responds in Spanish - amazing!
Yesterday, like most days lately, he was talking non-stop about his preschool he will be attending next fall. While I'm excited about his desire to pursue a higher education, I was really tired of talking about it. I suggested he go and talk to Chops about his preschool. He gave me a look and said, "Chops doesn't talk". So much for that idea.
Off to enjoy our Thanksgiving and try to think of a way to make the turkey appear to be a cookie. Looking forward to many, many more Thanksgivings with the ones I am most thankful for!
